A month has already flown by since Evie’s first birthday! I thought I better get on it and share the details of her party before I have to start planning the next one! We decided to have a Hawaiian Luau to celebrate our summer baby and in the Hawaiian spirit…it was HOT! Despite the high temps, we had a wonderful day celebrating with family and friends.
I love planning and decorating parties so I had a good time putting this party together. I started planning early and did some crafts here and there so I didn’t have to do everything at once. I love how everything turned out and baby bear had a blast!

I made her first birthday stat board using these liquid chalk markers. I used a black foam board, but if I were to do it again, I would probably use a real chalkboard because the markers would have worked a lot better and I could use the board again! These are the same markers I used for the sign in E’s first birthday pictures.
My mom made these beautiful pineapple vases filled with flowers from an idea you can find all over Pinterest! So in love. Flower arrangements are definitely not my strong suit!
We used Happy Birthday To You by Dr. Suess as a guestbook for all of the guests to leave E a special note. It was so nice to read all the messages to her that night. It will be something so special for her to have and we plan on reading it to her every year on her birthday.
For lunch, we served make-your-own deli sandwiches with all the fixins. I wanted to do something with little prep and not have to worry about cooking that day and missing out on the party. I prepped most everything the night before which made the next morning much easier to get it all out. It worked out perfectly and was easy set-up and clean-up. Once I got everything out it was smooth sailing and I didn’t have to do much else!
I made this banner that says “Evie is One!” and didn’t get a very good picture! I love how it turned out, though. I started with a plain white pennant banner, cut out all the different pieces, used Mod Podge to glue them on and these gold sticker letters for the words!
I wanted to display all of E’s monthly pictures in a cool way but was running short on time so we quickly made up this display and it totally worked! It is amazing how much they change in just one short year!
We set up a ball pit for E and her cousin to play in using our kiddie pool. E actually prefers the pool filled with balls and no water, so a month later, we are still using it as a ball pit!
We put the gift table inside right when you walked in. We also put the leis here so guests could get into the Hawaiian spirit as soon as they walked in!
We opened gifts outside in the raging heat. That was probably a mistake! Our house is on the smaller side and it would have been hard to fit everyone in and get some decent pictures. But, whew! It was a hot one!
After presents, it was time for cake! However, E was not impressed with this store bought mushy cupcake and actually gagged!! I felt like a bad mom for not making her a yummy cupcake like I had planned! She’s recovered though and has had her fair share of cake since then 😉
It was so hot, it was definitely time for a swim! My little birthday diva was rocking these shades!
I still can’t believe we have already passed the first birthday milestone! It has been an amazing year with our sweet girl and I am so excited to watch her learn and grow every day! Thank you to those who came to our party, our little bear is one lucky girl 🙂
